Effects of Bilobol from the Fruit Pulp of Ginkgo biloba on Cell Viability

Cytotoxic activity profiling of the n-hexane extract from fruit pulp Ginkgo biloba L. (Gingkgoaceae) led to purification 8 compounds. HPLC based identified a cytotoxic alkenylresorcinol. The was further separated by time-based fractionation in gradient condition, and cytotoxicity each fraction evaluated using 293, B16F10, BJAB, HCT116 cancer cells vitro. Bilobol isolated as an active constituent semi-preparative showed significant activities against dose-dependent manner at concentrations 15.0 ~ 50 μg/mL. western blotting analysis that this compound increased expression caspase-3 caspase-8 human colon cells, indicating causes apoptotic cell death manner. results suggest bilobol is component Biloba can induce various cells.
